Capturing the Essence of Visibility: The Artistic Journey of Liam Woods

In the vibrant streets of Los Angeles, a visionary image maker is redefining the narrative of Queer Black and Brown communities through the lens of inclusivity and empowerment. Liam Woods, a Trans and Non-Binary photographer with a profound mission, is not just capturing moments but is fostering a movement. With six years of experience and collaborations with giants like Levis, Apple, and Adidas and featured in prestigious publications such as Vogue, Paris, and The New York Times, Woods is more than a photographer; they are a beacon of change.

Liam's work is characterized by its candid intimacy, a reflection of their own experiences and the shared stories within the Queer and BIPOC communities. Beyond the frame, Woods is dedicated to creating avenues for BIPOC and Queer creatives, challenging the industry's gatekeeping, and advocating for meaningful representation. Their partnership with brands and media outlets has created over fifty job opportunities for Black creatives, a testament to their commitment to community upliftment.

Woods' artistic journey is deeply personal, stemming from their lived experiences as a Black, openly Trans, and Non-Binary individual navigating a world of adversity. Photography has become their sanctuary, a medium through which they reclaim narratives and envision worlds filled with inclusivity, liberation, and unconditional love. Influenced by the nostalgic and diverse storytelling of the '90s and early 2000s pop culture and contemporary series like "Sex Education" and "Insecure," Woods brings a unique blend of radiance and vulnerability to their work.

Their project, "A Part of Me, Is A Part of You," shot using the iPhone 13 Pro Max, delves into the Black trans experience in Portland, Oregon, highlighting the strength and beauty of the community. This work, among others, is a powerful reminder of the potential of photography to inspire and evoke change.

Woods' commitment extends beyond the camera. They have launched the Black Creatives Workshop in LA, providing resources and a supportive space for Black creatives to hone their craft. This initiative is a direct challenge to the industry's tokenism and a step towards a more inclusive and equitable creative space.

As we celebrate Black History Month, Liam Woods' contributions stand out as a testament to the power of art in advocating for social change and visibility. Their work not only captures the vibrant essence of Queer Black and Brown communities but also inspires a future where every individual is seen, heard, and valued. Woods' photography is a beacon of hope in a world that often overlooks the marginalized, illuminating the path toward a more inclusive and understanding society. Through their lens, we are reminded of diversity's beauty and unity's strength.
